International Undergraduates Program (IUP) in International Relations(English)

Brief Introduction


The International Undergraduate Program in International Relations (English) is delivered by the School of International Relations (SIR) at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). It is a full-time program of undergraduate in the academic study with an expected length of two years.

The aim of this program is to cultivate students who are interested in international relations and politics. SIR is dedicated to motivate students to master the basic knowledge and theories of International Relations, with an international version and intercultural communication skills. We hope the two-year study will help students  improve their independent thinking consciousness and practical ability, advance their interests in international relations and other related fields, and even make it their future career in universities, institutions, governments, think tanks, IGOs and NGOs.

The School of International Relations, founded in 2006 at UIBE , now is one of the top political science and international relations research and education institutions in China with increasing international recognition and visibility. As of 2019 ,we host around 200 international students from more than 40 countries in BA, MA, and PhD programs.

Program Schedule

This program will last 2 years, including one year for courses taking and one for dissertation writing and practicum. The maximum years are no longer than 4 years. For a student fulfilling the plan ahead of time with the dissertation qualified for defense, he can be allowed for defense, graduation and application of the degree ahead of time.


During the first year, students are required to attend seminars and courses (the requirement of credits shows below), which are designed for them to learn basic knowledge and theories of international relations, and cultivate their methodological skills. By the end of the second semester, students will be assigned a supervisor, who is a specialist in their chosen topic. Then since the second year, students shall write their dissertations and do social practice.


Credit requirements

To obtain a Bachelor’s degree of Law( Political science), students shall complete at least of 66 credits:

1. Compulsory Courses: 36 credits

2. Elective Courses: 18 credits

3. Dissertation: 4 credits

4. Practicum:8 credits


Dissertation

Students shall write a dissertation with 6000-8000 words since the third semester and submit first draft at the end of March. Students will take a workshop about dissertation writing, learning how to find a proper topic, do literature review and organize their dissertations.


Practicum

Social practice is of great importance and is one of the most effective ways to strengthen and improve the ideological and political education for students. During summer and winter holidays, students shall participate in social practice activities, such as part-time jobs, volunteering and fieldwork. After that students shall write a report with minimum words of 3000. The deadline for submission is at the beginning of the last semester.


Degree Granted

UIBE will granted a Bachelor of law degree to those who are recommended by SIR and approved by the academic degree committee of UIBE, and meet the following conditions:

1. Conform to the relevant regulations on student status and other management of SIR

2. Conform to all the UIBE regulations

3. Fulfill all obligations for payment of fees.

1. Courses with * are degree courses. Students will fail if the final score is lower than 70.

2. Besides elective courses, students can also participate in UIBE summer school to meet the elective course credit requirements.
